Multidirectional Instability Signs and Symptoms

Multidirectional Instability Signs and Symptoms

Multidirectional instability (MDI) is characterized by signs of ligamentous laxity, along with accompanying symptoms such as pain and weakness in the shoulder that experiences subluxations, which are partial movements out of joint, occurring in various directions—forward, backward, or downward. A medical professional conducting an examination may identify a positive "sulcus sign," further indicating the presence of MDI.

Physical therapy is the primary approach for managing MDI, and it yields favorable outcomes for the majority of patients.Surgical intervention is rarely recommended for MDI due to the challenges associated with achieving comprehensive stabilization in all directions of shoulder movement.
