Get Fast Pain Relief Without a Prescription!
Ditch the dangerous and addictive painkillers and those painful shots, because under the Direct Access (DA) laws in Pennsylvania, you can try physical therapy first for your neurological and musculoskeletal conditions and pain. Direct access allows you to be evaluated and treated by a DA certified physical therapist without being referred by a doctor or other healthcare practitioner. Direct access physical therapy is covered by most insurance plans for up to 30 days. If you need to continue physical therapy treatments beyond 30 days of the original start date, you will need a referral from a licensed physician, dentist or podiatrist. If you are seeking physical therapy under a Worker's Compensation or auto accident claim, a referral from a licensed physician, dentist or podiatrist is mandatory.
What This Means to You
Direct access to timely treatment by a DA certified physical therapist, without having to get a referral from your healthcare provider, which saves you time and money. Instead of getting caught in red tape, you will be able to focus on pain relief, improvement in your movement and mobility and getting back to the things you enjoy doing. You spend less time in doctors' offices and more time focusing on your recovery.
Under Pennsylvania's Direct Access laws, Medicare patient can see a physical therapist without a referral, but it requires physician involvement. Medicare requires that we develop a plan of care (POC) for Medicare patients and have it certified by a physician or nonphysician practitioner (NPP) within 30 days of the initial therapy visit. This plan must include, at a minimum, diagnoses, long-term treatment goals, and the type, quantity, duration, and frequency of therapy services. Medicare does not require you to actually visit the certifying physician or NPP before starting treatment with us. However, your physician or NPP may. Please contact us for more information.

How safe is Direct Access?
Direct access is safe, because your physical therapist will evaluate your condition and determine the most appropriate treatment, even if it means sending you to another health care provider that is more equipped to treat your condition. So, many patients can benefit from having direct access to physical therapy care without a referral or visit to a physician. Just remember, direct access does not replace the need for a physician. It simply provides you with a choice and allows you to try physical therapy first. While under our care, we will work closely with your physician regarding your treatment and we will be in regular communication regarding your progress.
