Distal Radius Fracture Colles, Smith Fractures

Fractures of the wrist and hand frequently occur as a result of a fall onto an outstretched hand or due to direct impact. Common symptoms include pain, tenderness, and noticeable deformity. X-rays are typically utilized to confirm the presence or absence of a fracture.

The treatment approach for fractures involves a process called "closed reduction," in which the bones are manually realigned to their proper position. In cases where manual realignment is not achievable, open reduction is performed, often accompanied by internal fixation. This surgical procedure involves placing the bones next to each other and securing them with pins, screws, or wires.

Early intervention and rehabilitation play a crucial role in minimizing pain, restoring range of motion, and ultimately regaining strength and functionality. Wrist supports and customized splints are beneficial for providing protection to the affected area, facilitating optimal healing.
