De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis

De Quervain's tenosynovitis is a prevalent condition characterized by inflammation of the tendons (extensor pollicis brevis and abductor pollicis longus) and their surrounding sheaths. Pain is typically experienced at the base of the thumb and wrist.

Repetitive work activities that involve tasks like wringing and scissoring often contribute to the development of De Quervain's tenosynovitis. Treatment approaches for this condition encompass rest, splinting, and rehabilitation aimed at restoring flexibility, reducing inflammation, and modifying tasks and activities to alleviate symptoms. In rare instances, surgery may be considered, but typically a steroid injection suffices to alleviate symptoms.
