Acromioclavicular Separation (Separated Shoulder)

Acromioclavicular Separation (Separated Shoulder)

Acromioclavicular separation, also known as a separated shoulder, often occurs due to a fall on the outer end of the shoulder. This injury leads to pain, swelling, and a visible deformity where the collarbone appears elevated or "sticking up."

The initial treatment approach for a separated shoulder typically involves rest, applying ice, taking pain and anti-inflammatory medication, and undergoing physical therapy to regain proper range of motion. In most cases, surgery is not necessary. However, there are instances where the ligaments connecting the collarbone to the shoulder blade may require surgical repair.
