When should I actually start rehab after getting diagnosed?
Honestly, you should start as soon as possible. Starting early helps you keep your function, learn good movement strategies, and slow things down. But even if you were diagnosed ages ago and never had specialized therapy, you can still benefit. We work with people at every stage.
How many sessions will I actually need each week?
Most people start with 2-3 times a week. This will build some momentum. Once you have got the hang of techniques and you are doing well with your home programme, maybe we drop to once a week or every other week for maintenance. It depends on your symptoms. It depends on what your goals & progress and what your insurance covers. We will figure out what works for you.
Does insurance actually pay for this?
Most insurance plans cover PT for Parkinson’s as long as it is medically necessary (which it usually is). But coverage varies. Some plans are generous. Others not so much. Our admin team can check your benefits before you start so you know what to expect. We will work with your insurance company to get you the most coverage possible and be upfront about any costs you will have to cover yourself.
Can rehab actually make me better or just slow down the decline?
A lot of people see real improvement, not just slower decline. You might walk faster, balance better, feel less stiff, do daily tasks easier. Rehab cannot cure Parkinson’s or stop it completely. But research shows it leads to genuine improvements in how you function and your quality of life, even if you have had Parkinson’s for years.
What do I need to bring to the first appointment?
Wear comfy clothes & decent athletic shoes. Bring your medication list, medical records/scans, etc. Write down questions you want to ask before you forget them. If you use a cane or walker, bring it. We want to see how you naturally move and what you are working with.
