Meniscal Tears

The menisci, protective cartilage pads within the knee, play a crucial role in absorbing and distributing compressive forces. Injuries can result in tears to one or both of these pads, often caused by forceful twisting and bending of the lower leg. Common signs and symptoms include pain along the joint line, knee locking, and swelling. The tear itself may exhibit a distinctive bucket handle or parrot beak shape. Initial treatment should involve rest, ice, compression, and elevation. In cases of a significant tear, arthroscopic surgery is often recommended.
