Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) Tear

MCL tears are frequently encountered injuries. Excessive force applied to the outer side of the knee can result in stretching and damage to the medial collateral ligament (MCL). Symptoms typically include pain on the inner aspect of the knee and swelling. In cases of severe trauma, such as those often seen in football and soccer, concurrent injuries such as medial meniscal tears and ACL tears may occur. Initially, treatment involves rest, ice, elevation, and compression, followed by the use of braces and rehabilitation. In more severe cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to address significant MCL tears.
