Avascular Necrosis of the Hip

Avascular necrosis refers to the death of bone tissue caused by insufficient blood supply. Disruption of the blood flow commonly occurs as a result of fractures, dislocations, or repetitive trauma to the femoral neck. Common indications of avascular necrosis include pain, restricted range of motion, and discomfort while walking. Diagnostic imaging such as X-rays, MRI, or bone scans can assist in confirming this condition. Surgical decompression or total hip replacement may be required as treatment options.
