Occupational Hand Therapy

What is Occupational Therapy for Hand?

If you have ever hurt your hand badly or had surgery on your wrist, you must have been told to get hand therapy done. You will know how frustrating it becomes to not be able to do simple things like – open a jar or type. That is where our hand rehabilitation specialists come in. Occupational therapy (particularly hand therapy) is a specialized branch of rehabilitation. It is done to help people get their arm function back after an injury, surgery, or if they have any chronic condition. Our occupational therapists in Levittown and Bensalem work with you to get your strength and movement back. After a few sessions, you can return to your normal life.
But there is another thing though. Hand therapy is not just about doing exercises although that is part of it. It also involves learning about how much you actually use your hands for literally everything. Think about it – scrolling through your phone, making breakfast, driving to work, playing with your kids. When your hands are not working right, it affects your whole life. At our occupational therapy clinic, we use a mix of everything to help you out of your difficult phase. Hands-on techniques, exercises, and sometimes even custom splints. All these together help you recover properly. Every patient is different. That is why we do not do cookie-cutter treatments. Our approach is made to fit your lifestyle & personal goals. We actually listen to what you need and what matters most to you.

Why Hand Therapy Matters More Than You Think

Many people underestimate how much they rely on their hands. It takes an injury or condition limiting their function to realize it. We need our hands for even simple things like buttoning the shirt. Without it, we cannot hold a coffee cup. Post-surgery hand therapy is super important. Without it you might end up with stiffness that never goes away or scar tissue that limits your movement permanently. Without proper rehab, you risk developing compensatory movement patterns. These can actually lead to further complications down the line. The research is pretty clear. Getting proper treatment early makes a massive difference in how well and quickly you recover. Your hands deserve proper care. And that is exactly what we provide at Physiomove.

Why People Choose Physiomove

We are not saying we are the only hand therapy clinic near you. But there are a lot of reasons we are the top choice for hand therapy in PA locations. There are reasons why our patients stick with us and recommend us to their friends. We actually care about getting you better and not just going through the motions. Plus our team are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to hand injuries.
Real experience
Our therapists have spent years specifically working on wrist & finger injury therapy. It is not just something they do occasionally. They have all the right training and are always reading up on new research and techniques. They remember what you told them last week and they genuinely want to help you reach your specific goals.
We do not pull out standard protocols for each and every patient. Your injury is not the same as the next person’s even if it looks similar on paper. We spend time in that first session really understanding what is going on. We see what you are struggling with and what you want. Then we build a plan around that. Some might need more manual work, others might need splints.
Coming to therapy appointments when injured and busy is already a hassle. We get that. So we have got appointment slots in early mornings, late evenings – whenever is convenient for you. We know not everyone can make it at 2PM on a Tuesday. Our clinic is easy to find, parking is not a nightmare. Basically we try to make the whole process as painless as possible.

FAQs about Occupational Therapy

Honestly it depends. Most people start feeling some difference within 2-3 weeks. But that is not a guarantee. This usually works for acute injury. These are fairly straightforward. You might improve faster. But if you are dealing with something chronic or have had surgery, it could take a few months of solid work. We will give you a realistic timeline in your first session.
We will not lie to you. Sometimes there is discomfort when you do therapy. This is especially true if we are working through stiffness or scar tissue. But we are not here to torture you. We work within what you can handle and we go gradually. You tell us if something hurts and we adjust. Some exercises are uncomfortable at the moment. But it is totally worth it for getting their function back.
It depends on your insurance really. Some insurance companies want a referral. Your best bet is to either call your insurance or just give us a ring. We deal with this stuff all the time and can usually tell you what your plan requires. If you do need a referral and do not have one yet, we can help coordinate with your doctor to sort that out.
Yeah, we can definitely help! We cannot cure arthritis obviously. But our expert physios work with arthritis patients all the time. They have a good track record in this area. We can help you manage it well. We will work on keeping your joints moving as much as possible, reducing pain. We also teach you techniques to protect your joints during daily activities. It is not magic but it helps.
Bring any medical records/imaging you have (X-rays, MRI). We need a list of your medications and your insurance card. Wear something comfortable that lets us see and access your arm and hand easily. If you are using any braces or splints already, bring those too.
