How long will my rehab take?
Honestly it depends. A minor muscle strain might be sorted in a few weeks. But something like an ACL reconstruction could take close to a year of proper rehab. Everyone heals differently too. Your age, fitness level & how well you stick to the programme – all makes a difference. When you come in for your first appointment we give you a realistic timeline.
Can I still train while I am doing rehab?
Usually yes, but you have to modify things. We will work out what you can safely keep doing. We will tell you what needs to be avoided or changed temporarily. This keeps your fitness up and stops you going mad from being inactive. Often we will add in cross-training options so you are still getting your workout without compromising the injured part.
What is actually different about sports rehab compared to normal physio?
Sports rehab is geared towards getting back your sports performance. Regular physio often focuses on getting you moving normally for daily life. These are things like walking, working, that sort of thing. Sports performance rehab considers things like your competition schedule, training loads & performance goals. You are not just aiming to be pain-free. You are aiming to compete or train at the level you want.
Do I need my doctor to refer me?
Nope. You can book directly with us without a referral. That said, if your injury is really severe – involves a fracture or needs scans – we might suggest seeing your GP or a sports doctor first. We work with GPs and coaches when it makes sense. Sometimes injuries need input from multiple people and that is completely fine.
Will my insurance pay for this?
Many private health insurance policies cover sports rehab physio services. But it varies massively between insurers and specific plans. The best thing is to check your policy or ring your insurer to ask about coverage and whether you need pre-approval. We can provide all the receipts and documentation you need for claims. We have self-pay options available too.
